Award winning author Kate Forest has worked in a psychiatric hospital, as a dating coach, and spent a disastrous summer selling above-ground swimming pools. But it was her over twenty-yearcareer as a social worker that compelled her to write love stories with characters you don’t typically get to read about. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband, two kids, and a fierce corgi.
Harper Kincaid was born in California and raised in South Florida. For years, she was a jill of all trades and a master of none, but is now tickled hot pink to pen stories that break and mend people’s hearts for a living. Kincaid believes seduction occurs from the neck up, which is why her characters are smart, sexy, and slightly quirky – and definitely worthy to be your next hard-core book crush. When not writing, she adores listening to indie, lo-fi, compliant rock played on vinyl, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds), and making those close to her laugh ’til they snort. She is a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but has now happily settled in the cutest lil‘ town, Vienna, Virginia.

Part 1 Speaker: Kelly Maher
Title: I Write Like Who?/Working with Libraries
Have you ever been amazed when librarians know exactly which book to recommend to readers? Wondered how you could learn how to do that? And maybe utilize those skills to better market your books? Kelly Maher shares the secrets of reader’s advisory and provides techniques for determining how to better position your books in today’s crowded market. She will also briefly cover the ways libraries work in selecting books for the collection and speakers for programs.
Part 2 Speaker: J.T. Bock
Title: “A Whedonite’s Guide to Characterization”
Joss Whedon is one of the contemporary storytellers from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to “Firefly” to the Avengers films. His characters – good and evil – are vivid and unforgettable. In this workshop, J.T. Bock examines Joss Whedon’s techniques and demonstrates how authors can use them in their stories.
